Why the Australia Post has gone after the chop shop
Auto glass shop Chop Shop has gone on a tear, with the owner receiving an $80,000 penalty notice for not reporting its payments to the Australian Taxation Office.
The payment was made to a company called AutoGlass Australia in April 2018.
It is understood the company was registered as a business in Victoria, but was not listed in the country’s financial register.
The penalty notice, which was lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, relates to an October 30, 2018 payment to AutoGlass that was made in Australia.
At the time of the payment, the company did not exist.
An investigation by the Australian Financial Commission found the company had no Australian registration and was not a business.
The AFR reported in October that the company owed the Australian Government $15,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties.
The penalty notice has been made public for the first time.
