New $100,000 tattoo shop opening in Auckland
New Zealand has seen a surge in tattoo shops opening in recent years, with one in five of those shops having opened in the past two years.
The Auckland Tattoo and Piercing Company is the latest to take advantage of that trend, opening its first shop in the country’s capital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The shop, located in the heart of Auckland’s busy residential CBD, has been in the works for some time.
Auckland Tattoo & Piercing Co has been working on the site for a few months, with a design by the artist Terence Burden and an interior designed by the company’s owner.
It’s the first Auckland tattoo shop in New Zealand to open, and it’s also the first to be operated by a non-profit.
The company says the new location will allow it to expand its operations to other parts of the city and in the surrounding area.
“We’re really excited to be opening this shop in our heart of our city,” said co-owner TerenceBurden.
They will be providing services including tattooing, face and body piercing, hair and body painting, hair restoration, waxing, tattoo and piercing, face enhancement, tattooing and facelift services.
There will also be an extensive range of tattoos and piercings.
A number of the tattoo shops in Auckland have opened recently, with other locations opening recently as well.
In October, a new tattoo shop was opened in Hamilton by tattoo artist Rachael Lippard, who opened her first shop at the height of the boom.
At the time, she told the ABC it was her dream to open a tattoo shop with a similar vision and experience to what Auckland has.
Tattoo shop in Hamilton opens on Tuesday after being in the planning stages for several years, after an artist with the business moved to the city earlier this year.
With Auckland in the midst of a severe economic downturn, a number of smaller tattoo shops have opened in recent months, including one in Wairarapa, another in Hamilton, and the recently opened Ink Ink Tattoo in Wanaka.
According to the company, it is the first New Zealand tattoo shop to operate independently of a charity.
This is the second time the Auckland Tattoote and Piercing Co is opening its doors, following a similar shop in Christchurch earlier this month.
