Target’s online shopping platform, Target, has been rocked by a series of recent hacks, which have seen millions of Target’s customers lose their funds and data, and the company has now announced it will be reopening the site.
The company announced it would be shutting down Target Online Shopping on Wednesday and will instead focus on its retail stores, which include Walmart and Costco.
In addition, Target will be partnering with Shopify, an online marketplace for online shopping.
“Target Online Shopping is shutting down as of March 11, 2018,” Target said in a statement.
“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and the loss of customer data.
We have committed to working with our partners to restore customers’ trust and to provide them with the tools they need to shop.”
While many customers are blaming Target for the hack, others are questioning the security of the site itself, and how much it has impacted the retail experience.
The store is not open 24/7, and a Target spokesperson told The Verge the website will not reopen until the security team can verify the security measures and are able to validate the store’s safety and functionality.
“While Target Online shopping is an open, trusted platform that enables consumers to shop online, Target is also committed to protecting customer data,” the spokesperson said.
“Target has worked with security experts to ensure our store’s security is top-notch and the store is currently fully operational.
Target is currently working with Shopifies security team to secure and restore data, including customer data, that has been stolen from Target stores.
We’re working with the retail partners to fix the breach and restore our customers’ confidence,” the statement read. “

“Restoring customers trust in Target online shopping will take time.
It will take us some time to assess our systems and understand exactly how this has impacted Target’s customer service and customer loyalty.
We will work with our retail partners on a daily basis to help restore trust, and will keep you updated as we continue to work through this matter.”
