How you can buy a cyber shop in Australia
Pets shop owners across Australia are calling for urgent action after the emergence of a new breed of cyber shop that can be rented for up to $150 a day.
The new breed, dubbed the “cyber kid”, is a relatively new and untested technology.
The “cybership” is a new term that is used to describe the ability of someone with access to a computer to do anything online, without having to be online themselves.
Its not yet clear if the cyber kid can be purchased online, but the owners of a popular Melbourne pet shop have spoken out in support of the new breed.
“I feel like we are the first in the country to be in this position,” one of the owners, who wished to remain anonymous, told news.com.au.
“It’s a little scary, but we have the support of our staff and the community, and we are just trying to stay ahead of the curve.”
He said the cyber kids were more than just a new product for pet shops.
“[They are] actually a great thing for our shop, and they can be used to rent out to other people,” he said.
But, the owner added, it could also be a security risk.
Some online retailers, such as pet-shop.com, have already been hit with legal action by local councils.
In the meantime, the owners said they were open to any sort of legal action.
“I think the best thing that we can do is let the courts deal with it and see if they think this is a breach of the Australian Consumer Law, and the Consumer Protection Act,” he explained.
“If they do think this’s a breach, then we would just be going through the legal system and trying to get the money back, but I think the court would just have to make a ruling.”
The owners said it was also possible the cyber shop could be hacked, or worse.
A Melbourne police spokeswoman said police were “looking into” the situation and were working with the Victorian Government.
While the owners’ experience was concerning, they have not received any legal advice.
“We’ve heard nothing, nothing at all,” one said.
“There are a lot of other things going on, and it’s hard to say what is going to happen, but hopefully we’ll be OK.
If we don’t get any support from the police, we will take it upon ourselves to sue them.”
But if the owners were unable to obtain a court order, the store would be forced to shut down.
As for the cyberkids, the shop owners said the new cyber kids would be a boon for the local pet shop industry.
“They’ll certainly have a huge impact on our local pet shops,” one pet shop owner said.
